People seem to forget that Gibbs was brought in as a stopgap to clean up a program that was a mess (anyone remember the drug scandal or Charles Thompson shooting the gun in the dorm?). He was never expected to be the next Switzer.

It wasnt that way in Lincoln for Solich. The expectation at Nebraska was a lot higher which caused the problem. OU knew they were rebuilding.

Schnellenberger vs Callahan? There are some similiarities. Both looked like desperate hires.

The real interesting part will be the next hire. The Stoops hire is one of the luckiest of all time. His dad was buried in an Iowa jersey, for God sake. If Iowa had pulled their head out of their butt, he never would have went to OU.

This will be tricky and take some luck. This is a much higher pressure job than OU was at the time. Im not sure this job is as desirable as that one. Money is a factor that will help NU but other jobs might not have the pressure to win right away. Just not that many coaches named Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer or Jim Tressel.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13652090.post-82444346545063570042007-10-15T23:21:00.000-05:002007-10-15T23:21:00.000-05:00Well said. I just don't think people realize his love for coaches, and if you remember he was not all that loved when he first started here! I don't think Billy C is going anywhere this year, now his DC is another thing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
